To get to a strong base about Korean culture, having a look on Confucianism in Korea would give a better understading. This is the first part of two about this topic of the Korean culture.
Reflecting on confucianism is always really odd for me - on one hand, I inherently know about the 5 virtues, mainly because it was also a part of my childhood in Taiwan and growing up in an Asian household. On the other hand, being raised in the United States has sort of put a wrench in that. It's not so much that I don't believe in the idea behind the 5 virtues, but more that the idea of having a "framework of thought" is somewhat alien to me.
